Update

Hello everyone,
I am sure some of you have noticed that I have not posted since Monday. I have spent the past week battling a really nasty cold/flu. I am finally starting to feel better enough to turn the computer on. I have decided to take the next 2 weeks off to hopefully get rid of this cold and finish our bathroom. It has been a bit crazy and hectic in our house this past week. My husband and I made the decision to spend the next 2 weeks focusing on our health and the house. I am happy to say that so far he does not have the flu. I wanted everyone to know what it going on and I will be back again soon.

Lowes Free Kids Build it

Sign up now with your child to build a super cool fire truck for FREE at Lowe's Build and Grow Clinic.

The workshop will be held on Saturday, September 26 at 10 a.m. at participating Lowe's stores.

You must sign up in advance for these free workshops, and a parent must be present at the workshop with the child.

Each workshop runs about an hour and is geared toward kids in first through fifth grade. Many of the projects are completed in less than an hour.

The first 50 kids to sign up for each workshop will get a kit, work apron, and safety goggles for free. Kids also get a badge and certificate when they complete their project.

I am so excited today! I just recieved the new Harry Connick Jr CD "Your Songs" from One 2 One Network. I was picked to listen to the cd and let all of you know about it! I can't wait to put it in the CD player today. I will keep you up to date on what I think and let you all know about it soon!!!

Grean cleaners that save money

One of the things I find to be really expensive is household cleaners. I also worry about what I am flushing down the drain into our water sources. I started looking for some safer and cheaper alternatives. I thought I would share with you a few of them that I have found.


For clogged drains:
Pour 1/2 cup of dry baking soda followed by a 1/2 cup of vinegar down the drain. Cover the drain and wait 15 minutes. Pour 2 cups of hot or boiling water down the drain.

For Faucets and dirty ovens:
Sprinkle baking soda over the area (make sure it is cool), scrub with steel wool and water. Do not use this on glass stove tops.

For fabric stains:
try white vinegar or lemon juice

For hard water stains:
Use vinegar! If you have hard water stains around your faucets pour vinegar into a paper towel. Wrap the paper towel around the area with the stains. If your toilet has hard water stains. Pour vinegar into the bowl and let it sit.

Some of you may have noticed that my posts have been rather random this past week. I thought I would update you on why. We decided to take on re-doing our bathroom finally. This picture shows were the shower will be (hopefully soon). This project has been filled with a lot of ups and downs. Every step of the way we seem to hit some type of road block. We finally had the concrete board in place a couple of days ago and then we had to start on the plumbing. My husband spent 10 hours trying to solder the pipes to the new fittings. After about 10 hours we called in 2 family members that are contractors. They spent 2 hours on it and they could not figure out how to get it sealed. We had to finally buy new pipes and fittings to get everything sealed in place! We have not had a shower in the house for over a week. Thank goodness for family and friends who have let us bounce between houses to get a shower.

Thankfully last night all of the pipes and fittings were put in place and we have water back in the house. It is amazing how much I took for granted having running water. We went about 24 hours without running water in the house. Now the bathtub is set in place and ready to be finished. We have a family friend helping us work on the floor today. I am really hoping that over the next week we will have this project completed.

Please be patient with me if the posts are random and scattered over the next few weeks. We are going to be working on the house and trying to get ready for it to be appraised.

Home Depot Do it Herself workshop

I am so excited for this workshop! We are currently ripping apart our bathroom and kitchen. I have had to rely on my husband to do most of the work excpet clean up. I can't wait to go to this workshop to learn how to do some of it on my own.

Coupon Policies

The wonderful group at heyitsfree.com posted this link about store coupon policies. It is always a good idea to know your favorite stores policy. I have added a section to my coupon notebook with printed copies of these policies. I find it is easier to pull out the paperwork and show it to the cashier at times than argue with them.

Kmart – Kmart does accept secure print-at-home coupons. Effective March 1, 2009, Kmart will accept industry-standard, secure print-at-home coupons. If the coupon dos (sic) not scan properly it cannot be accepted. Kmart will not accept coupons for more than about 75% of a product’s value. Kmart will not accept “FREE product” (no purchase required) print-at-home coupons.

Kroger – Effective November 2007, all Kroger divisions accept industry-standard, secure print-at-home coupons. And for the record, Kroger is the parent company for many other supermarkets, like Ralphs, Fry’s, and another dozen or so. Scroll down a bit on the previous page to see a collection of the logos of all their subsidiaries.

Rite Aid –One internet coupon can be used per item; however, there is a $5.00 limit on each internet coupon. Similar to manufacturer’s coupons, only one internet coupon is accepted for each item, unless coupled with a manufacturer’s or valuable coupon found in a Rite Aid circular.

Safeway – “We can only accept Printable Coupons if they scan properly at the register.” It’s worth pointing out that while they accept BOGO coupons, they do not accept straight up “free” coupons. These are for free coupons printed off of the internet

Soda Prices

My biggest "addiction" outside of using coupons is probably Diet Pepsi. I love it! It is definately my drink of choice. I started looking at the price I have been paying and trying to find the best deal. Many times you see these great looking sales at the grocery store for soda but I always wondered if it is really a good deal. Today I sat down and broke the prices down to a per can basis. I must say I was a bit surprised by what I found. There is a big differance in pricing depending on where you go.


Costco- 36 cans in a case for $9.49 = $.26/can

Yokes- Buy 3 get 2 free for 12 packs = $.25 can

Rosaurs- 4 12 packs for $10.00 = $.21 can

Albertsons- buy 2 get 2 free = $.21 can

These prices are based on the Spokane ads and what I have seen in the store.
I will try and keep this on a continual update for anyone else who is addicted to
