Swagbucks

It has been a while since I have talked about Swagbucks. Swagbucks is a search engine that you can earn points on. You can use the points towards gift certificates or other items. I started using Swagbucks this past year and have earned well over a $100 in Amazon gift cards. I use Swagbucks for everything. Even when I am going to a site that I use everyday I will search with Swagbucks. You never know when you may win a point or even three. This is an amazing free program that lets you earn money for working on the computer.  This is one of the best programs I think I found this past year.

Vocalpoint

I found Vocalpoint this past year and have been amazed at all of the fun things that arrive in my mailbox. The company gives you the chance to try out new products from your favorite companies. I recently tried Pantene shampoo for free. The company sends out interesting emails with new products and updates from other members across the country. If you are interested in trying new products or love getting items in the mail this is a great program.

Home Depot Do It Herself workshop.

We recently completed an entire bathroom overhaul. I took multiple free classes at Home Depot during this process. Prior to this project the only time I had been to Home Depot was to buy flowers for the garden. These workshops were a life saver. I was able to ask questions and find out how to work on the bathroom and not feel like I was being talked down to or out of place.

Thrifty tip- Visit your local library

I love books! I am quite content curling up on the couch with a good book and a Diet Pepsi and ignoring all of my cleaning and work that needs to get done. I have a really hard time paying full price for books or even sale prices knowing that I will finish them in a few hours and be done with them. One of the best things I have found while being unemployed is my local library. I had not been into a local library since high school. I am now a frequent visitor. I love that you can go online and request books by your favorite author or interests. The library moves the books to your local branch and holds them for you. I just saw today that I am #1 in the line to get the new Nora Roberts book. I have been waiting a month but I am finally at the top of the list. I have been tempted many times to pick this book up at the store but I keep reminding myself that I am saving $13.00 by waiting a few weeks. My local library also has a huge collection of magazines. I find it really relaxing to go there and catch up on the gossip magazines or craft magazines and save $2-$4 for each one by not buying them at the store.

I'm Back!

Some of you may have noticed that I have been gone for a few weeks. My husband and I sat down in November and talked about what we have been doing since I lost my job. We realized that we had a unique opportunity to travel and spend time together and only think about 1 set of vacation days. We also looked at how much money we have been saving with coupons and sales and how great the travel deals are. We decided to take a couple of vacations while we could. Our first trip was over Thanksgiving. We went to Iceland for a few days. It was an amazing trip and such a great deal. We came back from Iceland for about 10 days and then left for Hawaii. We are fortunate that my parents have a time share in Hawaii for 2 weeks every year. We convinced them that it would be in their best interest if we came along on their vacation. Thankfully they agreed and we spend an amazing 10 days with them on the Big Island of Hawaii. We got back last week in time to tackle Christmas. Now I am very happy to say I am back. I will be focusing on sharing with all of you my favorite deals and savings.
One of the items that came from my husband and my talking about our savings is a renewed focus on tracking how much we have saved. I knew we were saving a ton but had not taken the time to put it down in writing. I started tracking in an Excel spreadsheet how much we have saved. I am going to try and share this with you to show that you really can save an amazing amount of money with coupons and sales. Since I started tracking last month we have saved over $1800.00 not including our travel deals.
I really hope to make 2010 an amazing year filled with great deals and huge money saving opportunities!!!
