Without painting to keep them occupied, at-risk hands would lash out by picking pockets, slapping policemen, and ruining strangers' photographs with last-minute bunny ears. Keep potential finger felons out of trouble with today's Groupon: for $37, you get a watercolor art class at Gallery of THUM (a $75 value), located on North Monroe.

Gallery of THUM (Trendy Handcrafted Urban Marketplace) paints the Spokane area with a kaleidoscopic palette of local-artist galleries, jewelry, and classes. Veteran instructors such as Timothy Phillips and Cecile Charles teach all beginning brush brandishers how to whip up their own translucent watercolor and correct their mistakes, allowing them to create and take home a completed 5"x7" rendering of a spring-time tulip. There are 30 students per class, and light refreshments are dished out for any avant-garde artisan looking to recreate Starry Night with cake frosting. All picturesque pupils need to bring pencils, erasers, and a cotton rag, and while basic brushes, paints, and supplies are provided, students are encouraged to use their own materials in order to prevent contracting a fellow classmate's creativity.
