Couponing 101 - Coupon organization

Couponing 101- Coupon Organization

I am working on putting together a short video to show my coupon binders. I hope to have it posted in the next few days. Here is some quick information on organizing your coupons.

I think that coupon organization is one of the most important aspects of couponing.  You have to find a system that works for YOU! Every system is a little different. I started with envelopes and now use a large binder system.

Coupon Binder System
I use 2 binders currently. One if for food and the other for health and beauty, pet and misc.
Here are the categories in my Food Binder:

First Section:
I have pages for the stores that I shop at frequently. I pull the coupons that I know I want to use at each store and keep them in separate pages. This way I can easily grab them when I am at the store.

Second Section:
I have pages for any free coupons that I may have. I sort them by expiration date. I want to make sure that I do not lose out on the opportunity to pick up an item for free because it is mixed in with all the other coupons.

Here are the additional sections that I use in my binder. There are a lot of them because I find it easier to have them separated when I am in the store. I did not start off with this many sections. It has grown over time as I have been couponing.

-Pillsbury

I use baseball card pages to separate my coupons. I have them in multiple sizes and shapes. If you live in Spokane or the surrounding area NW Sports Cards in the Spokane Valley offers a 10% discount to Tammilee Tips readers. They have a ton of different inserts with great prices.
You can also find baseball card inserts on Amazon. Here are a few of the ones that I use

Okay I am really wanting to do this coupon savings thing but do you actually go to several stores? We usually go every two weeks and go to Sam's for the bulky stuff like toilet paper, detergant, big bags of cheese and more but they don't except coupons so I am losing on the savings there. Then we go to Wal-mart for the rest. Please give me advise on what to do.My husbands ex-wife was a pro on the saving but I can't ask her for the help.lol
Please e-mail me and let me know.sherbullard@yahoo.com
thanks

Sherry, We do end up going to multiple stores. This is something that I started doing when I started with coupons. I do this so I maximize my savings with coupons. We live 20-30 minutes from a major shopping area. I try and go into town once a week or every 2 weeks and do everything in one day. There are times that I will end up in town for something else and I always make sure I have my coupons with me. Walmart is a great place to shop. You can price match to other stores and they now pay overages on coupons. I hope this helps.

When I watched the extreme couponing on TLC, i was struck by the large amount of one item that people purchase at one time. Do you need a coupon for each individual item or does on coupon cover multiple purchases for the same item?

Help setting up a tracking spreadsheet would be very helpful I have just started couponing. I have loads of SS, RP inserts, but tracking them in my spreadsheet still seems not as efficient as I would like it to be in order to really save at the grocery store and inventory all of the coupons.
