Book Review - Surviving Your Serengeti by Stefan Swanepoel

I was given the opportunity to read and review and amazing book Surviving Your Srengeti by Stefan Swanepoel from BookSneeze. I know there is the saying that you should not judge a book by its cover but I did with this book. The moment I saw the amazing photo on the front cover I had to read it. I am so excited to say that the book cover was just as good as the book itself.

I started this book right before we were leaving to head out of town. Within a few pages I was hooked and struggled to put it down. I ended up bringing it with me for the trip. Everytime we stopped for even a few minutes I picked up the book to continue reading it. I was enthralled with the message and story this book protrays. I have never read a business book that so clearly puts the dynamics of business and business personalities into such easy to read fun format. The author was able to take the business world and relate it to the Serengeti in a way that makes me wonder why I had never thought of it before. You are asked during the book to try and identify which animal portrayed you are. I think I know what I am but I continue a week later to wonder if I really am that animal or a combination of them.

Here, Home, Hope by Kaira Rouda

Book Review

I was given the opportunity to read Here, Home, Hope by One2One network. I was really exited to read this book. The book is broken into three sections chronicling the story of Kelly Johnson. Kelly is a stay at home mom of two boys who is struggling with some of life's big moments. Her kids are away at camp for the summer and she is home gaining weight and trying to figure out what to do with herself.

The first portion of the book "Here" was a bit slow for me. I struggled to read the first seven chapters and keep going. I happen to see another Blogger reviewing the same book and talked with her about the book. She reassured me that the book would pick up and to keep going. I am so happy that I listened to her and kept on going.

When I reached the "Home and Hope" sections of the book I could not put the book down. I was inspired at times and teary eyed at other points while finishing the book. I am so happy that I finished this book and kept going. I really enjoyed the final two sections of the book and found great inspiration from them.

If you are looking for a great summer read that is both thought provoking and entertaining I would suggest Here, Home, Hope by Kaira Rouda.

Put Your Dream to the Test Book Review



I was given the opportunity to read John C Maxwell's book Put Your Dream To The Test from Booksneeze. I have been reading a lot of books on business, pushing yourself, dreams, goals and achieving success lately. I found this book to be a really enjoyable read. The book is broken into easy to read and understand sections. I really liked the face that at the end of each chapter there is a list of questions. I found myself really thinking about the questions and my thoughts. The book focuses on analyzing your dreams and making sure they are your own dreams. I was really impressed with the stories included in the book. The stories make you realize how many great success stories had huge failures in the beginning.

I really enjoyed the chapter on deciding if your dreams are your own. The book talks about how many people go through their lives living their parents dreams not their own. The book provides questions to ask yourself to make sure your dreams really are your own.

If you are looking to test yourself and push your dreams to the next level than I would suggest checking out this book.

Jolt by Phil Cooke - Book Review



I was given the opportunity to read Jolt by Phil Cooke. I was so excited when this book came in. I love the title "Jolt, Get the Jump on a World That's Constantly Changing."

I was so impressed with this book. I sat down and had a hard time putting this book down. I was so impressed with the flow of this book and how inspiring it was. I found myself wanting to highlight and mark pages.  The book makes you think about how you handle change and the craziness that life can throw at you.

One of the quotes from the book that I love is

 Life isn't about finding easy answers

Life is about asking the right questions

This book made me think back on all of the crazy ups and downs we have been through in the past few years. If you are looking for a book that is both inspiring and pushes you to really think I would highly suggest this book!

Home-Ec 101 book review

I was given the opportunity to read a chapter of the new book Home-Ec 101. I found the chapter to be amusing but I did not learn a lot. The chapter I read was about meal planning. This is something that we already do so it was not a new subject for me. I think this book would be great for someone just out of college or starting out on their own.

Book Review - Unsinkable- A Young Woman's Courageous Battle on the High Seas

I was given the opportunity to read Unsinkable- A young woman's courageous battle on the high seas written by Abby Sunderland and Lynn Vincent from Booksneeze. The book chronicles Abby's courageous journey around the world by herself in a sailboat. Abby was 16 at the time of the journey and hoped to be the youngest person to solo circumvent the globe. 
The book starts off with detailing the preparations that went into the trip. It is an interesting part of the book but started to feel a little slow after a few chapters. I was a bit worried that the book would continue at this pace. As soon as Abby leaves the dock in Los Angeles the books starts speeding up. I did not put the book down from this point on and I finished it in one night. I was so impressed with the courage that Abby had on her voyage. She encounters things that I can not imagine going through in my 30's let alone at 16.
The book gives you amazing technical information about sailing in a easy to read format. I feel like I learned not only about Abby's journey but also a little bit about the sailing world. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a great positive read. The people that stepped up to help Abby on her journey are amazing.
I highly recommend this book for anyone from 16 on. It is a great book that encourages you to follow your dreams and keep positive during tough times.
